Lactobacillus helveticus

Lactobacillus helveticus is not particularly gastro-resistant, and only a small proportion of the ingested bacteria reach the intestine alive. For certain effects, particularly those on the immune system, this is irrelevant. Immune cells respond to the presence of bacterial cell walls even when the bacteria are no longer alive.
