Harpagophytum (Harpagophytum procumbens)
Harpagophytum is a small plant that grows wild on the African continent. There, it is traditionally used in herbal medicine for a variety of conditions. The Latin name Harpagophytum means “plant harpoon” because of the small claws that allow it to cling to anything that comes near it, earning it the nickname “devil’s claw.” The rhizome contains harpagosides, a natural pain reliever.
