Psyllium (Plantago ovata Forssk.)
Psyllium is a natural fiber derived from the seeds of certain plants of the Plantago genus, such as Plantago ovata. Also known as ispaghul, it is mainly used for its beneficial properties on intestinal transit, as its teguments swell on contact with water to form a gel. This helps regulate transit in cases of constipation (by increasing stool volume) or diarrhea (by absorbing excess liquid).
